Crash reports, usage statistics and screen recordings. If you agree in the app (Settings › Privacy), we collect information about how OPNYON works for you and how you use it: crash and error reports, the screens and features you use, your IP address and information about your device (such as its type, system, language and app version). With your permission, we may record how you use the app (the screens you see and how you move through them) to improve it; your votes and anything you type are never recorded, and nor is any Politics poll. We use this information to fix problems, improve OPNYON, keep it secure and see roughly where it is used, never for advertising, and it isn't linked to your account. On the website, errors are reported and usage is counted without cookies or any identifier stored on your device. You can change your choice at any time in Settings › Privacy; saying no does not change how OPNYON works for you.

3. How we use it

  • To run your account, show polls, count votes and send your login code.
  • To run Local, invite-only asking, check marks and tags.
  • To keep OPNYON safe: handle reports, hide content, and enforce our Terms.
  • To meet legal duties, including answering orders from courts, police and government agencies.
  • To find and fix errors and understand how OPNYON is used, if you agreed (section 2).

We do not sell your personal data and do not use it for advertising.

Your consent. We use your data with your consent, which you give when you create an account, for the purposes in the table above. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account or by writing to us. It is as easy to withdraw as to give. If you withdraw, we stop using your data, except where the law lets or requires us to keep it, and we can no longer provide your account.

Crash reports, usage statistics and screen recordings have their own consent, separate from creating an account. You can give or withdraw it in Settings › Privacy.

4. Who helps us run OPNYON

Provider What it does for us Where
Supabase Database, sign-in and file storage Mumbai, India
Cloudflare Hosting, security and delivery of the website Servers around the world
Amazon Web Services (SES) Sends login emails United States
Google Sign in with Google, if you choose it Worldwide
Microsoft Hosts our support mailbox, where your emails to us arrive Worldwide
Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) Crash and error reports United States
PostHog (PostHog Inc.) Usage statistics and screen recordings United States

This means some of your data is processed outside India.

If we merge with, or sell the business to, another company, your information may move to the new owner, who must follow this policy.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account exists.

When you delete your account, your profile and polls are hidden straight away and you are signed out. For 30 days you can restore the account. After that we permanently delete your profile, photos, polls, votes, follows, saves and notifications. Your votes are also removed from the totals of other people's polls. Your username stays retired, so nobody else can use it.

Indian law requires us to keep the information you gave when you registered (such as your email address, name, date of birth, gender and city) for 180 days after you delete your account. We keep it private, use it only to meet legal duties, and then delete it. When we remove or hide content, we also keep it and related records for at least 180 days, or longer if a court or authority requires it.

If you start signing up and leave without finishing, we keep the details you gave for 180 days, as the law requires, and then delete them.

Invite records stay while the account exists. The private note our team may write on an invite we send is deleted 90 days after the invite is used or expires. Counts of searches that find no place, which carry no account or address, are deleted after 90 days.

We may keep limited records for safety or legal reasons: reports and their saved copies, moderation records, and our admin action log. We keep them for up to 3 years after the account is deleted, or longer where the law or a legal case requires it.

Backups: our database provider keeps backups for about seven days. Before changes to our systems we also make copies ourselves, and we delete those within 30 days. Deleted data can remain in them until they expire. Website logs are kept for 7 days.

Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days, screen recordings for up to 30 days, and usage statistics for up to 1 year, then deleted by our providers.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Change your details. In Settings you can edit your name, bio, photo, username, date of birth, gender and city.
  • Delete your account. Settings, then Privacy.
  • Block and report. You can block a person, and report a poll or a profile, from their menus.
  • Ask us. Email support@opnyon.com to ask for a copy of your data, to correct or delete it, to withdraw consent, or to complain. Today there is no in-app way to download your data or change your email address. Write to us and we will help.

Under Indian law you have the right to: get a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it; have it corrected or updated; have it erased; have a complaint dealt with; and name someone to use these rights for you if you die or cannot act. Some data we must keep by law, as explained in section 5. Use the options above or write to us. We will reply within 30 days. If we do not resolve your complaint, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India. Withdrawing consent means we can no longer provide your account.

7. Security

OPNYON uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Rules in the database stop people from reading each other's private data. Login codes last 10 minutes. Access to our administrative systems is limited to authorised people, with additional security measures. No system is completely secure. If you notice a problem, tell us at support@opnyon.com. If a personal data breach affects you, we will tell you without delay. We will also report it to the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires, with a full report within 72 hours.

8. Children

OPNYON is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we delete that account.

9. Cookies and local storage

On the website we use only the cookies needed to run the site and sign you in: one that keeps you signed in, for up to 400 days; one, lasting one hour, that holds your email address while you enter your login code; one, lasting 10 minutes, that shows a "session expired" message; one, lasting 2 hours, that holds an invite link while you sign up; and a short-lived one that checks your sign-in when you use Google. The website also keeps two small settings in your browser for the current tab only, which go away when you close it. We use no advertising or analytics cookies. Usage statistics on the website are counted without cookies or browser storage. The apps keep your sign-in on your phone.

10. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we will post the new version and show a notice in OPNYON at least 15 days before it takes effect.
